Help Us Preserve a Piece of Oxnard History
The Henry Levy House has stood at 155 S. G Street since 1915 — over a century of Oxnard history within its walls. As Ventura County Historic Landmark No. 74 and a contributing structure to the National Register-listed Henry T. Oxnard Historic District, every repair must meet strict historic preservation standards, making even routine maintenance significantly more costly than it would be for a conventional home.
We have already invested over half a million dollars in critical restoration work — replacing the roof, installing all-new paver walkways and patios, rewiring the entire electrical system, and remodeling two bathrooms. That investment has stabilized the house and brought it back from the edge.
But the work is far from finished.
The windows need restoration. The exterior wood trim — much of it original Craftsman detail — needs repair and repainting. The foundation requires stabilization where the house has begun to settle. Interior walls need repair. Three bathrooms await refurbishment. All the original hardwood floors need refinishing. The front porch cement must be replaced. Every interior door and window casing needs to be stripped and repainted. The Craftsman woodwork throughout the house needs to be stripped, restained, and varnished to its original beauty. The kitchen requires new cabinetry. The half-acre of rear gardens needs to be completely reimagined and restored. And the entire property needs a new irrigation system to sustain it all.
This is the reality of stewardship. Historic preservation is not cheap — and it is never finished. But every dollar raised through the General Refurbishing Fund goes directly toward keeping this irreplaceable landmark alive for the community it has served for over a hundred years.
